Ocean projects
I will begin by saying that my art practice is a methodology that informs my research. My love of the ocean is central to my practice, it defines what it is. The research will be a creative practice in itself and will be done through socially engaged art with shared knowledge. Within my research, I will study ocean epistemology about our identities within these watery spaces and how we are connected with and shaped by the ocean, and to constitute this knowledge my beliefs must be true and justified. I will engage in critical reflection on my practice which will help me to understand the necessary steps to develop and implement productive action plans and to reflect critically on actions taken and why these actions were carried out

Photography
I sell black and white photography images. They come framed in a black wooden frame and measure 12 x 8. They are a vast selection of images that I love. They were taken on my travels.

Socially engaged art practice
I work with communities of interest examples Kilkee sub aqua club, West Clare currach club in bringing about awareness of the water quality in our oceans.

Drawings
I am in the process of making a documentary, and part of this process is making drawings of things I see in relation to my scuba diving practice

About Jackie Mc Grath
Jackie Mc Grath is a socially engaged visual artist. She has a degree in Sculpture & Combined Media, a MA in Social Practice and the Creative Space. She has had art exhibitions in various locations and is a member of the VAI. Her projects include 'Ocean and the Sea', 'Rural and the Deep', 'Silver Dart', and 'Watery Connections'. Her work is about our physical and spiritual embodiment within nature and our oceans. Through her medium of photography, drawing, and film, she draws the viewer into different worlds. The aim of her art practice is to examine how belief systems shape ideas about the nature of being and our existence within the world, and how a ‘fluid narrative’ can shift our approach from the existing infrastructures that dominate the way we relate to our planet.
